“the leaves on the trees surrounding the deck turned from green to bright red and orange, falling gently to the sloping lawn that led to the road, the exit, the highway that would take me away” …
…brought tears to my eyes. Seeing myself so clearly in that same place.
Thank you for sharing this. Isn't it strange how we "feel" the anniversaries in our bodies? It's like our body knows before our mind what time of year it is. I wish you peace and grace.❤️
I have no doubt that you were the absolute best daughter you could be at the time. Grace is coming your way. Hugs! (Also- reading words like these truly helps me with my goal. of being as involved as possible with my parents while they are still with me.- so thank you!)
We do what we can do with what we have. You were a great daughter and did your best with your Mom! She probably left early so you wouldn't have to see her go. This is so beautifully written.
Thank you for your honest, beautifully written sharing of this experience, Natalie. I think we all imagine a perfect scenario of what it’s like to be with our parents when they leave us. I appreciate your perspective so much.

Thanks so much Susanna. What a nice thing to say. I'm glad this inspired you as you navigate the "sandwich" generation now, as well. xo
